DIY WINE CORK SUCCULENT MAGNETS

2014-04-15

Another lovely magnet idea for a easter gift.

I love giving small but thoughtful gifts to people. So I figured out how to make these lovely little wine cork succulent magnets.  I’ve given them as part of birthday gifts, I’ve given them to people for no reason at all, and I’ve given them to the lovely hostesses around me. And every single person loves, loves, loves them!

Materials:
– Glue gun & glue sticks
– Scissors
– Magnet roll that can be cut to size
– Toothpick
– Dirt
– Miniature succulents
– Wine corks
– Washi tape
– Ribbon (optional)

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

1. Create a hole in the center of your wine corks, about 3/4 of the way down. The simplest and quickest way that I’ve found to do this, is to use a drill and drill bit. Most of us or our significant others have this household tool. I hollow about 20 corks at a time, so I have them available as needed.

2. Fill the hole in your cork with dirt and pack it tightly to the top using a toothpick.

3. Add your succulents. I push the stems down with a toothpick, getting the root into the dirt as deep as possible.

4. Cut you magnet pieces about 1/2? long, and glue them to the BACK of your cork with a hot glue gun. I’ve tried super glue, but found that hot glue is the only thing that adheres well to cork.

And there you have it! The sweetest little wine cork succulent magnets, that I guarantee will make people smile. Simple, inexpensive and thoughtful. Give it a try!

A bonus idea, wrap a row of washi tape around the your corks. This actually makes it much easier to transport, but most importantly, looks cute! For one more layer, tie a ribbon around your washi tape, and booooom…best gift ever! Enjoy!
