The summer is coming! And the cork boats are easy and fun!

Enjoy another way of crafting with your kids.

3 x corks
2 x different coloured scrapbook papers
1 x bamboo skewer
1 x bead
Sail boat template (download here)
UHU glue
Small screwdriver
Cutting mat

Get crafting

1. Make a hole through the middle of each of the three corks with the small screwdriver using the cutting mat to protect your table. Drive the bamboo skewer through the holes and push all the way to the end of the skewer, then trim off the end.

2. Cut the skewer to about 12 cm long, keeping the pointed end. From the template cut out the sail and the flag shapes. To attach the sail, pierce the top and bottom points with the skewer and thread on, ensuring that the pattern on the paper is facing outwards.

3. Lay the corks flat on the table and drive the sharp end of the skewer through the middle of the boat. Push the sail down so it rests on the corks. At the top of the sail attach the flag, by running a line of glue along the back of the shortest side of the flag and folding around the skewer. Hold in place for a minute to allow to dry.

4. Finish with the bead at the top of the flag, attaching with a small blob of glue, and cut off any excess skewer.

5. Get racing! Float or race the boats in the bath or a small stream.
