Eco-Friendly DYI cork decor
Awesome craft for the weekend! Check out this lamp made of used wine corks, easy to make, funny and impressive results! Follow the steps in this tutorial and get that extra home made deco for your living room.
For this simple yet visually striking DIY project, I used:
-A Plethora of Corks
-A Relatively Plain Lampshade
-A Glue Gun with Glue Sticks
"For my next trick, I will make a pretty plain and sad looking lampshade from Goodwill disappear right before your eyes! Not so much with smoke and mirrors, but more like a much needed facelift. Since this neglected component of a $3 lamp has been collecting dust in my storage closet, I figured it was time for a revisit."
"There is an infinite number of ways you can cover a lampshade with corks, visually speaking. The important part is planning ahead to ensure that you have enough supplies to cover your entire area.
For the particular size and shape I had, four corks fit almost perfectly when placed vertically up the height of the shade. After this base number was established, I circled the bottom of the lampshade with the corks as shown in the photo. Once I counted how many corks it took to do that, I multiplied that number by the cork height (4), which gave me an approximate number for how many I needed to cover the whole thing.
I discovered I was short by about 10 corks, but was gifted this missing number very shortly after. However, you can easily start this project and come back to it after you have enjoyed a couple more bottles!"
Allow your glue gun to properly heat up, then glue the corks to the surface of the lampshade one by one, making sure the corks touch and there is no white space showing.
This step took me about 30 minutes. Take your time and worry about those pesky glue strings later. Let the shade dry completely and use a lint roller to pick up the strings.
Keep going…the end is in sight! Again, do not worry about glue strings, because a lint roller works like magic. Make sure there are no gaps so the shade gets completely covered for the most dramatic effect.
Now you have a virtually new and swanky lampshade that is ready to be lit up. Enjoy!
